The ACA Level 2: Essentials of Kayak Touring Trip Leader skills training and assessment is designed to expose candidates to the skill-set required to lead paddlers in protected waterways. While this is not a teaching award, a L2 trip leader should also be able to provide basic tips to paddlers, as appropriate, to help them through the environment.

This three-day training and assessment program is a great opportunity for aspiring guides and club paddlers leading professionally and recreationally to develop the leadership and technical skills needed to safely lead groups.
This program’s venue is a truly unique location. Our base of operations will be on Poer Island, a 202-acre rustic paradise in West Grand Traverse Bay. Participants will be expected to camp and share basic camp responsibilities as part of the skills training and assessment.
This program is focused on training future leaders to skills in the ACA L2 Essentials of Kayak Touring trip leader training criteria. To successfully complete the program, participants must meet the technical proficiency, trip planning, group management, and leadership skills in the assessment document. To get the most from the program, this program is intended for paddlers possessing ACA L2 personal paddling skills and knowledge at a minimum.
Course venue: Traverse City, MI
